Ottawa police seek witnesses in east-end sexual assault investigation

The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Section (SACA) is in the midst of an investigation into a sexual assault that occurred in East Ottawa on Tuesday.
Around 5:00 p.m. on July 28, a female victim was walking on a paved path near Truro St and Carpenter Way, while pushing a child in a stroller, when she was approached by the suspect, whom she did not know. The suspect was armed with a knife.
The suspect sexually assaulted the woman before fleeing the scene. The victim was transported to the hospital and was receiving care at the time of the police’s release at 12:35 p.m. on Wednesday.
The suspect has yet to be identified, but is described as a white male, approximately 40 years old, with a medium build and dark beard. The man is an English speaker who is said to have no noticeable accent. At the time of the assault, the suspect was wearing a black hoodie with front pockets, brown shoulders, and brown sleeves. He was also wearing faded blue jeans and brown tennis shoes.
Ottawa Police have released the following map to identify the exact location of the assault, relative to Truro and Carpenter, in an attempt to find witnesses.
Investigators are asking anyone who was in the area of Truro Street and Carpenter Way (see map) at approximately 5:00 p.m. on July 28 to contact police. Detectives are particularly interested in speaking with anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity or who has dashcam, doorbell, or security camera footage from the area.
