Driver in hospital following collision between a car and a VIA Rail train

A driver is in hospital after a vehicle collided with a VIA Rail train on Aug. 30 on Fallowfield Drive near Fallowfield Train Station around 3:30 p.m.
Ottawa Police were called to the scene at 3:30 p.m. with firefighters arriving minutes later. At 3:40 p.m. the driver was extricated and transferred to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. No injuries were reported from any passengers or crew members on the train.
Firefighters confirmed the heavily damaged vehicle had been swept to the side of the site of collision, about 75 feet away.
The railway crossing signals were confirmed to have been operating properly at the time of the collision. Road closures remain in effect as the investigation continues.
