Officers still looking for suspects in 2023 double homicide

Three years after a wedding night erupted in gunfire leaving two people dead, police are still looking for information.

What began as a weekend celebration in the nation’s capital turned into a double-homicide investigation after shots were fired at the Infinity Convention Centre near the Ottawa International Airport. On Sept. 2, 2023 police were called around 10:21 p.m. for a shooting outside the centre.

Said Mohamed Ali, 26, and Abdishakur Abdi-Dahir, 29, both of Toronto were killed and six others were injured.

In the aftermath, police said they looked into whether the shooting was hate-motivated but did not find evidence to support the theory.

At the time, Ottawa police acting insp. Amy Bond said the violence is unacceptable and “disturbing for our entire community.”

To date police have laid no charges and have not released public information on any suspects.

“Investigators believe there are people who attended the wedding, or who have knowledge of what happened that night, who have not yet shared everything they know with police,” an updated press release on the case reads.

Officials are pleading with anyone that could have information to come forward. Anonymous tips can also be submitted.
