Two people found dead in vehicle following a collision, SIU investigating

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) invoked its mandate after two people were found dead following an attempted traffic stop in South Frontenac.

On Sunday, Sept. 6, 2026, just after midnight, members of the Frontenac Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle on Bedford Road.

According to SIU, the call to police was regarding a car that was found to be stolen. When an officer approached the car, the male driver fled. Then, a single vehicle crash on Bedford Road near Salmon Lake Road occurred.

The male driver and woman passenger were found dead and have yet to be identified, the SIU confirms. Police said the vehicle was located in a wooded area.

Three investigators, two forensic investigators and a collision reconstructionist have been assigned to the case.

Bedford Road in South Frontenac is currently closed between Mason Lane and Lady Bush Lane, as the on-scene investigation continues.

The OPP notified the SIU, which invoked its mandate.
