Police looking for videos, images after serious stabbing in Deep River

Officers are asking the residents of Deep River to report any suspicious activity and share any video footage with police after a serious stabbing left someone in serious condition.

Last week, emergency responders were called to the area of Golf Course Road and McElligott Drive, between Banting Drive and Granite Lane, in the small Ottawa Valley town.

It prompted a cautionary shelter-in-place for residents that was lifted well over 12 hours after the situation, while officials searched for a suspect.

No details of a suspect have been released by police, which urged people to avoid sharing rumoured information online.

“Police have not identified a suspect and have not confirmed the accuracy of the information being shared online,” an update reads. “The spread of unconfirmed information can directly interfere with the investigation, impact witness evidence, and hinder police efforts to identify those responsible.”

Sgt. Erin Cranton, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), said in an email to CityNews that officials have not confirmed a suspect as of Sept. 14.

On Sept. 9 an adult was stabbed in the town. The adult was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries where they remain, Cranton said.

The investigation is ongoing by the Deep River Police Department with assistance from OPP.
