Advanced voting days for Ottawa’s upcoming municipal election

There are multiple places in the nation’s capital where people can go to vote ahead of the official election day on Oct. 26.

The advanced voting days allow people to place their ballot ahead, taking place between Oct. 1 and 4 from 10 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Regardless of a person’s address people can vote on these days at the following locations:

Those who have a vote notification letter are encouraged to bring to their voting place, but it’s not required. Those whose names do not show up on the voter’s list or who need to change their address can also go to the polling stations on advanced days.

A piece of ID that shows the address and name means anyone in Ottawa can vote regardless of whether they have their voter information card.

Another advanced voting day will happen Oct. 16, before election day the following Monday.

Two councillors were automatically re-elected — Riley Brockington, Ward 16 River and David Brown, Ward 21 Rideau-Jock — because they faced no opponents after the nomination period closed.

Brigitte Pellerin, a political commentator, said in an interview that she is surprised by how eager people are to speak to the nominees in the city.

“These conversations we haven’t really had as much in the few years since the pandemic,” Pellerin explains. “It’s really coming back and I’m really seeing this as something that is hopeful and that may lead in four years, to more people, through this engagement with their neighbours being willing to step up and throw their hat in the ring.”
