Foul play suspected in 2023 disappearance of Ottawa Valley mother

More than three years after she walked away and was never seen again, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are saying they do suspect foul play.

Brianna Traversey was 29 years old when she was last seen leaving a Petawawa, Ont. home on Aug. 17, 2023. However, she was not reported missing until Sept. 21 of the same year.

Her father, Brian Traversey, appeared in an OPP video begging the public to come forward with any details. Brianna is a mother to two young boys who are old enough to ask questions about her.

“(They) do ask, ‘Where’s my mum’… and I’d like to tell them,” Brian said in the emotional video. “We miss her so much.”

Police said that Brianna faced “challenges beyond her control” noting that “vulnerable people need strong advocates.”

Brian says that in the three years since his daughter went missing he still wakes up in the middle of the night; not being able to sleep. He worries about where she is, fearing that something bad happened.

Detective Inspector Erin Thomas, who’s been on the case since the beginning, said officers believe Brianna was staying with friends in Petawawa in the area of Laroche Crescent. The video showcases what police say is the last known photo of her as she’s walking down the roadway.

“After three years and the thoroughness of the investigation that we’ve done, no longer are we saying that foul play cannot be ruled out. In this particular case, we do suspect foul play,” Thomas said.

There is a $50,000 reward for any information leading to information about her whereabouts.

“All we need is for somebody to say something, so me and the rest of the family; her brothers, her sisters, her babies, could know something,” Brian said. “We want to bring her home, one way or another.”
