OPS traffic stop leads to discovery of loaded handgun

Ottawa Police say a cannabis-related traffic stop in the south end led to the discovery of a loaded handgun.

On Wednesday, Sept. 30 at 11:20 p.m., the South Neighbourhood Resource Team officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of McCarthy Road and Paul Anka Drive.

Once pulled over, the drivers were investigated for cannabis and later arrested an adult male and a youth, who both attempted to flee the scene. While the young person was arrested, officers retrieved a loaded handgun in the jacket pocket.

The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) Guns and Gangs Unit continues to investigate.

An additional adult male and adult female were arrested. The woman was later released without charges.
