Free 30-minute parking at downtown Ottawa garages to assist area businesses

By Mike Vlasveld

The City of Ottawa is looking for ways to help independent businesses in its downtown core after Ontario implemented a state of emergency and stay-at-home order due to rising COVID-19 levels.

Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson tweeted, Thursday, April 8, that the city is reinstating free parking for a maximum 30-minute stay at the three gate-controlled parking garages until June 30.

Two of the garages are located in the ByWard Market, while the third is at City Hall.

The mayor says the move is made in an effort to support curbside pickup for hard-hit downtown businesses and restaurants.
