Ottawa COVID-19 indicators show little movement as just eight new local cases are confirmed

Ottawa Public Health (OPH) says the number of hospitalizations and other local indicators of COVID-19 spread are mostly unchanged from a day ago after it confirmed eight new cases of the virus in the city.

There are still seven people in Ottawa hospitals with COVID-19 as of Tuesday, October 19, four of whom are in intensive care.

The number of cases confirmed in the city over the last seven days is up slightly, to 201 from 188. The number of Delta variant cases confirmed over the last 30 days is down slightly, from 137 to 132. The number of active cases that OPH knows about is down to 237 from 263.

The number of COVID-19 outbreaks in schools is unchanged at seven. There's also one ongoing outbreak at an Ottawa child care centre and one COVID-19 outbreak in the community, stemming from an office workplace.

Residents being tested for COVID-19 are still seeing positive results 1.8 per cent of the time.

No new COVID-19 deaths in Ottawa leaves the city's pandemic toll at 602.

Ottawa's COVID-19 single-dose COVID-19 vaccination rate among residents 12 and older is up to 90 per cent. Among residents over 18, it's still at 89 per cent. OPH says 85 per cent of residents 12-plus are fully immunized.

The rate of infection among Ottawa's unvaccinated vaccine-eligible population is 11 times higher than it is for the fully vaccinated population. The local rate of infection per 100,000 residents for those vaccinated against the virus is at 11, whereas the rate for those unvaccinated (or vaccinated with one dose under 14 days) is 125.2. The rate per 100,000 residents for those who are waiting for their second shot is 55.4.

Ontario is reporting 328 new COVID-19 cases and four deaths from the virus on Tuesday. Health Minister Christine Elliott says 223 of the infected people are not fully vaccinated or have an unknown vaccination status.

There have been 30,535 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ottawa (29,969 resolved) since March of 2020.
