Ottawa Public Health handing down new rules for businesses during stay-at-home order

By Mike Vlasveld

Ottawa businesses have a newly revised set of rules to follow, in order to help curb the spread of COVID-19 in the city.

Ottawa Public Health (OPH) is issuing a letter to all local business owners, with rules they must have a plan to follow by Saturday, April 10, at 5 a.m.

The new measures include increased reporting requirements when two or more people test positive for COVID-19 within a 14-day interval, in connection to the workplace.

OPH wants business owners to ensure all of their employees are aware of benefits or pay they might be entitled to if they need to self-isolate.

The health unit is also asking that one staff member be constantly dedicated to actively monitoring and managing capacity limit requirements, and making sure patrons are following physical distancing and masking guidelines both indoors and while in line-ups.

OPH says documentation of how workplaces will adhere to the rules will be required in workplace safety plans.
