Three new community outbreaks, 156 new cases of COVID-19 reported in Ottawa

Ottawa Public Health (OPH) is confirming 156 new cases of COVID-19 in the city, while it tracks three new community outbreaks of the virus.

There are 10 COVID-19 community outbreaks in the city as of Thursday, April 8: four linked to restaurants, three to 'service' workplaces, one in a construction company, another from a retail store and one connected to a social event.

The number of outbreaks in local healthcare institutions is up to 30, while nine schools and one childcare centre are also dealing with outbreaks of the novel coronavirus.

Ottawa's weekly COVID-19 incidence rate is up yet again on Thursday, to 138 per 100,000 residents. The positivity rate among residents being tested for the virus remains at 8.8 per cent.

Local hospitalizations due to the virus remain unchanged from Wednesday. There are 69 Ottawans in hospital with COVID-19 — 20 of whom remain in intensive care. Those numbers are both the highest the city has ever seen during the pandemic.

OPH says it knows of 1,948 active cases of COVID-19 in the city.

No new deaths due to COVID-19 reported Thursday, leaves the local pandemic death toll at 470.

There have been 18,788 lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 (16,370 resolved) in Ottawa since March of 2020 — 1,455 in the last week.

The City of Ottawa has administered 77 per cent of 223,150 COVID-19 vaccines, to date. OPH updates its local vaccination numbers every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Ontario is reporting 3,295 new cases of COVID-19, Thursday, including 38 in the Eastern Ontario Health Unit's area, 16 in the Leeds, Grenville and Lanark district and seven in Renfrew County and district.
