On Saturday, Feb. 11, people across the country and North America will commemorate 2-1-1 Day.

The 2-1-1 service is Canada's primary source of information for government and community-based, non-clinical health and social services. The free and confidential service can be accessed 24 hours a day, in more than 150 languages, by phone, chat, text, and web.

"We have over 7,000 services in our database in eastern Ontario, and that's our engine and drives what we do," said John Hoyles, the executive director at Community Navigation of Eastern Ontario on The Sam Laprade Show on Feb. 10.

Hoyles said the service is a tool for people to use when they are dealing with certain challenges in their lives, and don't know where to turn.

"People call us and they get a live person, they can also text, chat or email us, and we will talk to them and find out what their particular issue is and we will get them connected directly to the agency that can best help them," he added.
