Arrest made in stabbing of OPP officer near Belleville

A man from Northumberland County is being charged in connection with the stabbing of a police officer near Belleville.  

Around 1 a.m. on Sunday, March 21, an Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer tried to stop a vehicle on Highway 14, just west of Highway 62.

Police say the vehicle collided with the officer's cruiser, and during an ensuing altercation, the officer was stabbed in the neck. 

Charles Parkinson, 26, is now being held in custody, facing an attempted murder charge. 

The officer was treated for serious injuries, and is now recovering in hospital.
