Bank Street closing to vehicular traffic for ‘Open Street Project’ this weekend

By Mike Vlasveld

Bank Street businesses are encouraging residents to come downtown and spend time on local patios and in stores.

The 2021 Downtown Bank “Open Street Project” starts Friday, June 25, at 6 p.m., and runs until Saturday, June 26, at 11:59 p.m.

Bank Street will be closed to vehicular traffic, between Slater Street and Catherine Street, at the same time every weekend throughout July. Frank Street at Bank will also be closed until the end of patio season. The Bank Street BIA says Frank Street has been converted into a two-way street to allow in and out traffic via O'Connor Street.

All streets in the area, running east-to-west, will remain open.

The BIA has worked with the City of Ottawa to establish “loading zone” parking spaces on side streets for anyone looking to do curbside pickup from a business in the affected area of Bank Street.

The BIA says the open streets project will be reevaluated at the end of July.
