Barrhaven East candidate wants to use his skills to serve his community

By CityNews Staff

Wilson Lo, a candidate for Barrhaven East, is ready to bring his effective communication skills to city hall.

Lo told The Sam Laprade Show with guest host Derick Fage on July 27 that as a customer communication officer for the City of Ottawa responsible for managing complaints and feedback, he tries to advocate for residents but is somewhat limited in what he can do.

“I want to transfer my skills, my care, my dedication to a role where I can more effectively serve my neighbours and help my community,” he said.

Part of his plan is to plant more trees in Ottawa, especially along major avenues and Barrhaven parks, adding that trees are not only essential in fighting climate change but are great for road safety and drainage.

As for the transit portion of his plan, Lo said he currently isn't in favour of implementing free transit, but does support a more inclusive, subsidized fare program and would like to see OC Transpo explore a fare cap system that would stop charging riders after they've reached a certain dollar amount every month.

“That kind of eliminates the worry of not using the full value of your monthly pass,” he said. “At the same time, it's a more budget friendly means of travel.”
