Bear euthanized after being struck by car

By Alex Black

A bear was euthanized after being struck by a vehicle in Aylmer Wednesday.

Around 1 p.m., police arrived on scene at boulevard des Allumettières and chemin Vanier, and found the bear was obviously suffering.

Police contacted wildlife authorities who confirmed the bear should be put out of its misery, so police shot and killed the bear.

There has been a rash of bear sightings on both sides of the river this summer, but mainly on the Quebec side.

The increase in sightings is believed to be due to a lack of food in the wild, as well as hot, dry summer conditions.
