Belle Grove brand Whole White Mushrooms recalled

By Dani-Elle Dubé

There’s been a food recall warning for Belle Grove brand Whole White Mushrooms because of potential presence of dangerous bacteria.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency announced the recall Saturday due to Clostridium botulinus.

The recall was triggered by the company, the agency says.

Consumers should not consume the recalled product, which best before date is labelled at January 15.

If you’ve become sick from consuming the product, the agency urges to call your doctor.

Also, people are asked to see if they have the recalled product in their home. If so, throw it out or return it to the store where it was purchased.

Food contaminated with Clostridium botulinum toxin may not look or smell spoiled, but can make you sick, the agency says.

Symptoms in adults can include facial paralysis or loss of facial expression, unreactive or fix pupils, difficulty swallowing, drooping eyelids, blurred or double vision and difficulty speaking (slurred speech and a change in the sound of voice like hoarseness).

For children, symptoms can include difficulty swallowing, slurred speech, generalized weakness and paralysis.

In all cases, botulism does not cause fever.

In severe cases, people may die.

The agency is conducting an investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products.
