Boil water advisory in place for Town of Renfrew

By Dani-Elle Dubé

A boil water advisory has been issued for the Town of Renfrew for properties located north of the Bonnechere River.

The local health unit issued the warning Sunday evening, adding that the advisory was issued due to a loss of pressure in the water distribution system because of a major water main break in the area of Stewart Street between Hincks and Ready avenues.

The advisory will be in place until further notice.

Traffic is being re-routed until the road has been restored.

During the advisory, the Renfrew County and District Health Unit says residents should not drink the water, use it for making infant formula or juices, making ice, washing foods or brushing teeth.

Instead, boiled water or commercially bottled water should be used.

To make sure your tap water is safe, it should be brought to a rapid rolling boil for 1 minute, The unit adds that residents should only boil as much water in a pot as they can comfortably lift without spilling.
