Calabogie Family Farm raising money to donate fresh produce to local food banks

By CityNews Ottawa

Calabogie Family Farm wants to give back to local communities by raising money to donate fresh produce to food banks.

The farm operates on a share basis, where members of the community share the benefits of receiving weekly or bi-weekly boxes of local, organically grown produce and fresh-picked flowers.

This year, the farm is hoping to raise $5,000 by selling a portion of its shares to community members, and will then donate fresh, locally grown produce to local food banks.

Depending on the number of shares purchased, participants will receive a bouquet of freshly-picked flowers every one or two weeks between late June and the end of September.

Food banks have been hard by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, with a recent report saying all food banks in Ontario saw a significant increase in first-time users in the first four months of the pandemic.
