Ottawa's top doctor is encouraging residents to take additional safety measures when it comes to wearing a mask in public, including carrying a plastic bag for used masks, and carrying extra hand sanitizer.
According to Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Vera Etches, putting a used mask in a plastic bag while not being worn can prevent further contamination from the novel coronavirus.
She is suggesting people to carry extra hand sanitizer as Ottawa enters Stage 3 of Ontario's economic reopening on Friday, July 17, especially as residents resume indoor dining.
"Say, going to a restaurant where you take your mask off to eat, you know to have some hand sanitizer so you can clean your hands ... that will help," Dr. Etches explains.
In the meantime, more information and additional safety tips from Ottawa Public Health is available on their website.
