Celebration of Lights raises over $3,000 for Smiths Falls Community Food Bank

By Alex Goudge

The Celebration of Lights has raised more than $3,000 for the Smiths Falls Community Food Bank, as food insecurity continues to rise due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Funds raised by the holiday light celebration at Centennial Park will help support residents in Smiths Falls, Jasper, Merrickville and other surrounding communities.

The Smiths Falls Community Food Bank assists families and individuals in need by providing them with safe and nutritious emergency food, as supply allows.

Smiths Falls Mayor Shawn Pankow says he appreciates what the food bank is doing.

“Additional expenses during the holidays can make the season a stressful time of the year for many families,” he explains. “We are pleased the food bank can serve as that conduit so this donation can help meet the food security needs of our citizens.”

The Smiths Falls Celebration of Lights ran from November 23, 2020 to January 7, 2021.
