City council approves Ryan Reynolds Way for future Orleans subdivision

By Dani-Elle Dubé

Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds will always have a place in Ottawa’s heart — and now permanently in the capital's geography.

On Wednesday, February 9, city council approved the new street named after the Hitman's Bodyguard star, appropriately called Ryan Reynolds Way, which will be located in a new Orleans subdivision.

Although a Vancouver native, Reynolds once called Ottawa home and the street was the city's way of honouring the actor for his philanthropy.

“Spending part of his childhood living in Vanier, Ryan has a close connection to the City of Ottawa,” explained the mayor on January 26. “The Deadpool star has shown tremendous generosity, donating to the Ottawa Food Bank in support of residents in need during the pandemic,” Watson read from his motion.

“And whereas upon receiving notice of generous donations, staff and residents were given encouragement, hope and shared sense of community.”

During the pandemic, Reynolds also made donations to the Distress Centre of Ottawa and worked unofficially as a City of Ottawa communications intern who went under the name of Bruce.
