City of Gatineau shuttering facilities while opening first COVID-19 assessment centre

Although there have not been any confermed cases of COVID-19 in the Outaouais region, the City of Gatineau is closing many of its facilities and the Centre intégré de santé et des services sociaux de l'Outaouais (CISS de l'Outaouais) will open a coronavirus-designated clinic.

The assessment centre is expected to open Saturday, and will exclusively welcome patients who have been referred to it. Residents will not be able to go directly there without prior evaluation.

The city closures are effective immediately, as it is in accordance with recommendations made by the Quebec government.
 
All of the following public activities in Gatineau are cancelled until further notice:

  • Events and municipal gatherings of more than 250 people;
  • Public consultations planned soon;
  • Aquatic programming activities;
  • Shows at the Jean-Despréz hall, at the La Basoche cabaret, at the Théâtre de l'Île and at the Espace René-Provost;
  • Activities offered by the City and its partners in municipal establishments and schools;
  • Registration for Culture and Leisure program activities planned for next week.

All of the following locations are closed until further notice:

  • The sport centre;
  • The Lucien-Houle and Paul-Pelletier aquatic centers;
  • The arenas;
  • Libraries;
  • Community centers;
  • Venues: Galerie Montcalm, Espace Pierre-Debain, Cultural Center of Vieux-Aylmer, Salle Jean-Despréz, Cabaret La Basoche, Théâtre de l'Île and Espace René-Provost;
  • The Hélène-Larochelle pavilion in Lac-Beauchamp park;
  • The Lac-Leamy outdoor center.

The following locations remain open and the following activities are continued until further notice:

  • The municipal council of March 17, 2020 will be held, certain terms will be announced soon;
  • The non-emergency call center (311);
  • Service centers;
  • The Citizen's House;
  • The transhipment center;
  • The ecocentres;
  • The Municipal Court;
  • Residual material collections.
