City of Ottawa filing report to Transportation Safety Board following weekend incident on Confederation Line

By CityNews Ottawa

The City of Ottawa says it will be filing another report with the Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) regarding damage to the Confederation Line, following issues present on the system over the weekend.

According to a memo from the city, the initial investigation into the incident, which closed a portion of the light-rail system from Saturday, January 22 to Sunday, January 23, determined Saturday's extreme cold impacted the system's cantenary power line.

Following further analysis, it was found those conditions also caused damage to the pantograph on four vehicles. A pantograph is the arm that connects the train to the catenary line to provide power to the vehicle.

All necessary repairs were made on the Confederation Line as it resumed service on Sunday. Pantographs on the four vehicles are also being replaced before they re-enter service.

The city says reporting to the TSB is standard practice following incidents of this nature, and no follow-up from the board is expected.
