City report recommends no citizen commissioners on transit commission for new term

A staff report recommends that members of the public no longer sit on the City of Ottawa's transit commission.

Ottawa Mayor Mark Sutcliffe supports the recommendation that only Ottawa city councillors be part of the transit commission.

“I am confident that the city councillors who will sit on the transit commision going forward will represent the interest of the public just like they do on any other city committee that deals with important matters,” said Mayor Sutcliffe.

Members of the public have been appointed to the City's transit commission in each of the last three terms of council, but the report states that most members of council expressed that all commissioners should be city councillors.

The report suggests a new transit advisory body be established that includes members of the public.
