The city is warning residents that they are not going door-to-door and requesting to inspect water and sewer infrastructure inside their homes.
On Thursday, the city sent out a warning that they had received reports of individuals posing as city staff, asking people to come inside their homes.
“Do not allow these individuals into or around your residence,” the city stressed.
The city says they will only request home access in emergency situations — but will always schedule in advance to do so.
City employees also carry identification at all times, and people have a right to ask to see it.
Employees also travel in city vehicles marked with the Ottawa logo.
As well, employees do not contact residents to sell products or services.
Anyone with concerns or wanting to report suspicious visits or calls can contact 311.
