A local community group is raising concerns ahead of the Canada Day weekend.
With freedom rallies being planned in Canada's capital around Canada Day, Brian Latour with the group Community Solidarity Ottawa (CSO), said on The Rob Snow Show on Wednesday, June 29 that efforts from the City of Ottawa and the Ottawa Police Service to protect key parts of the downtown core could push more disruptive protests in residential areas.
"We are focusing on monitoring and documenting what's going to be happening this weekend and sharing that information with the community so we can kind of keep each other safe," said Latour.
Latour is concerned for the safety of people in general on Canada Day because, he said, many groups set to protest this weekend have ties to extreme far right groups.
"We are concerned whenever those people show up and spread those ideologies in our community," he added.
