Competition for summer campsites more intense than ever: Ontario Parks

By CityNews Ottawa

Ontario Parks' website is seeing a massive increase in the amount of people trying to reserve campsites for this summer.

Between 6:30 a.m. and 7:30 a.m., Monday, March 1, parks officials say there were more than 34,000 users logged on, which is an increase of more than 200 per cent from the same day in 2020.

Ontario Parks said on Twitter, they know it’s disappointing to miss first choice dates and parks, but they're advising residents to keep checking the site throughout the season for availability due to last-minute cancellations.

Between January 1 and February 5, bookings at Ontario Parks have increased almost 100 per cent from 2020. Officials say campers have made 58,475 reservations in that span, up from 29,504 reservations in the same period in 2020.

Algonquin, Killbear, the Pinery, Sandbanks and Bon Echo are Ontario's five provincial parks in highest demand in 2021.
