Councillor examining Kanata Lakes greenspace agreement

The land at the Kanata Golf and Country Club could soon be home to new condos and the idea is not sitting well with residents in the Kanata Lakes and Beaverbrook area.

The local community associations are calling on the city to address the proposal and take another look at the intial agreement, signed back in 1981.

Kanata North councillor Jenna Sudds explained that she is working on the file.

“We've been hard at work here at the city, working with the mayor's team, senior staff, legal,” she said. “Taking a look at what's referred to as the 40 per cent agreement and a number of supporting documents to try to get a sense from a legal perspective what our options are.”

The 40 per cent agreement refers to the amount of greenspace that was agreed to when the old city of Kanata signed over the land in the early 80s. Kanata community groups believe that if ClubLink no longer wants to operate the golf course then it should be sold and run as a golf course, or the greenspace should be transferred back to the city at no cost.

So far there has been no development plan revealed nor has a planning application been filed.

A community meeting on the proposed development will be held on January 21 at 7 p.m. at the Mlacak Arena
