COVID-19 levels in capital remain high as OPH recommends gathering outdoors for Thanksgiving

By Anil Jhalli

As COVID-19 levels remain high in the city, Ottawa Public Health (OPH) is suggesting residents gathering outdoors or open windows inside homes with the Thanksgiving long weekend around the corner.

In its latest COVID-19 snapshot, which is released once a week on Thursdays, OPH said wastewater virus detection levels are high and remain relatively unchanged from the last update, while testing per cent positivity is high and increasing. Hospital admissions from COVID-19 remained unchanged from the last update, and new confirmed outbreaks are moderate and remain unchanged from the last update one week ago.

“Our monitoring indicators continue to show there are high levels of COVID-19 circulating in the community,” OPH said in the latest snapshot. “Respiratory illness season has started, and continuing to use the layers of protection we’ve used against COVID-19 will help prevent the spread of other respiratory viruses like colds and the flu.”

OPH is recommending wearing mask indoors or in crowded spaces.
