A fire in a Gatineau condo building caused $1 million in damage and has left over 20 people homeless.

Crews responded to a three-storey multi-unit residential building on Rue de Morency, just off La Verendreye near the Gatineau hospital around 3 a.m., Monday.

The roof of the building collapsed, but no injuries were reported.

The building next door also suffered smoke and water damage.

Over 50 fire fighters battled the flames for nearly six hours - the fire was declared under control before 9 a.m.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
