Election goes beyond councillors and mayor

By Anil Jhalli

The Oct. 24 election is more than electing new council members and a new mayor.

It's a chance for people to vote for school board trustees, who work to balance school board's budget and help plan the direction of schools across Ottawa.

Outgoing Ottawa-Carleton District School Board (OCDSB) trustee Mark Fisher, who represents River and Gloucester-Southgate, told The Rob Snow Show on Oct. 4 that there's an abundance of people running for school board trustees this time around, and it's because of the board's response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Some people are going be happy and some people will be unhappy, and that's because of the decision over the last couple of years and whether you agree or not, it's driving the numbers of more people participating,” he said.

Voting day is Oct. 24.
