Environment Canada confirms three more tornadoes in Quebec, bringing regional total to six

Environment Canada is now confirming that EF-1 tornadoes touched down in the Val-des-Bois, Mont-Laurier and Otter Lake areas.

Otter Lake is about a half-hour's drive north of Shawville. The agency says that tornado's path tracked about 3 km long, and mostly cut through forest.

Val-des-Bois is located just northeast of Gatineau Park — about an hour from downtown Ottawa. That twister tracked east-northeast for about 13 km before dissipating near the town of Val-des-Bois, where it damaged buildings and snapped trees.

The third tornado happened around 3:30 p.m. Friday near Baskatong reservoir — about two hours drive from Ottawa-Gatineau, and about 30 km east of Mont-Laurier.

Meteorologists with Environment Canada assessed damage from these tornadoes using satellite images.

To be considered an EF-1 tornado, the storm's winds needed to have reached 175 km/hr, and have been powerful enough to uproot trees and damage roofs.

The weather agency already confirmed three other tornadoes which started in Ottawa.

An EF-1 category twister touched down at about 4:15 p.m. in Calabogie.

The other two tornadoes happened less than an hour later, with winds reaching 265 km/hr and 220 km/hr, respectively.

The strongest of the tornadoes — a category EF-3 — formed in Kinburn, and over the course of 40 minutes travelled through Dunrobin and hopped the Ottawa River to Gatineau.

Cleanup efforts are continuing.
