Extrication needed in crash on Wellington Street, in front of Supreme Court

Ottawa fire crews have rescued one person, trapped in a vehicle, following a two-vehicle collision downtown.

The incident happened at 10:07 a.m., Tuesday, in the area of Wellington Street and Kent Street in front of the Supreme Court.  

Extrication tools were needed to remove the driver-side door of the vehicle in order to better access the injured person. 

Crews began extrication procedures at 10:10 a.m. by first stabilizing the vehicle and then proceeded to use tools such as cutters and spreaders.  

The patient was able to be rescued at 10:24 a.m.

The status of the person removed from the vehicle has not been made public yet, but they were taken to hospital for treatment.
