Fatal crash involving transport truck closes portion of eastbound 417 near Kanata

By Alex Black

Two people have been killed in a crash between a pickup truck and a tractor trailer on Highway 417, west of Kanata.

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) say the truck struck the back of a stopped utility trailer and pickup truck, in the area of Panmure Road, just before 1 a.m. on Monday, August 23.

The pickup and utility trailer were stopped in an eastbound lane of the highway.

A man and woman who were outside the pickup truck at the time were struck and pronounced dead on scene. The OPP says next of kin notifications haven't been completed yet, so the identity of the victims is not being released at this time.

The driver of the transport was not injured in the collision.

The eastbound lanes of the highway are closed between Panmure Road and March Road, and the Panmure Road on-ramp is also closed.

The closure is expected to stay in place for the remainder of the morning for the police investigation.
