Ottawa firefighters rescue two men and their dog from the Rideau River in Manotick, Monday, March 21, 2022.

Two men and a dog have been pulled from the fast-moving, frigid waters of the Rideau River in Manotick.

Ottawa Fire Services said the two men had fallen through the ice on the Rideau, south of Watson's Mill, around 5 p.m. on Monday, March 21. The men were found hanging on to an ice shelf, about 200 feet from shore.

Firefighters said the men had been trying to retrieve their dog, who ran onto the ice and had fallen through.

The two men were brought back to shore by firefighters.

The dog had made its own way up onto an ice shelf, but the shelf broke loose and began moving quickly down the river. Firefighters were able to intercept the ice shelf and bring the dog back to shore.

The two men were taken by Ottawa paramedics.
