Five cars in ditch along 416 as freezing rain settles in on region

By CityNews Ottawa

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is warning drivers of slippery conditions after several cars slid into the ditch off of Highway 416 south of Kemptville.

In a tweet, OPP in North Greville informed drivers to slow down along the northbound 416 as they deal with getting five cars, including a truck towing a trailer, out of the ditch, all near the exit for Oxford Mills.

Black ice formed on the major highway as freezing drizzle and rain moved in over the region Tuesday night, Jan. 17, making for slick driving conditions.

Environment Canada issued a freezing drizzle advisory for Ottawa and the surrounding region beginning Tuesday evening. The freezing drizzle is expected to continue throughout the night and into Wednesday morning with the potential for periods of heavier freezing rain.
