Possible charges after four people injured in Highway 17 crash

Charges are pending after a serious collision that closed Highway 17 near Renfrew.

Renfrew Ontario Provincial Police officers responded to a report of a head on collision on Hwy 17, west of Bruce Street at 6:04 a.m. Tuesday. 

Upon arrival, the officers discovered four vehicles were involved in the crash. The highway was then closed and traffic was rerouted. 

Renfrew County paramedics arrived on the scene and took three drivers to hospital with serious injuries. One of the drivers was later airlifted from hospital to a trauma centre. 

The fourth driver suffered minor injuries and was not transported.

Preliminary investigation has showed that an eastbound vehicle entered the westbound lanes and struck a vehicle head on. Two other vehicles were unable to avoid these vehicles and were involved in the collision. 

Charges are pending against the driver of the eastbound vehicle.
