Gala event honours retiring Kanata councillor

A gala event tonight in Kanata celebrates the political career of outgoing councillor Marianne Wilkinson, while raising money for healthcare.
Wilkinson has been involved in local politics over the past 40 years, beginning as a councillor in the former Township of March, then going on the become reeve and then the first mayor of Kanata. Wilkinson has spent the past 12 years as the city councillor for Kanata North. She decided to not run for re-election.
The gala event will also raise money for a local health hub in Kanata. Once her term ends, Wilkinson plans to use some of her time and energy to help make the health hub a reality.
The gala begins at 6 p.m., at the Brookstreet Hotel.
