The Gatineau hospital has hired 25 more nurses, allowing it to re-open its emergency room at the beginning of next week.
The Centre intégré de Santé et de Services sociaux de l'Outaouais, which operates the hospital, announced the full reopening of the Gatineau hospital's ER and the partial opening of the emergency room of another hospital, in St-André-Avellin, northwest of Montebello, as of Monday.
The CISSS said the hiring of the additional nurses were possible thanks to various financial incentives offered to nurses. It called the 25 nurse hirings at the Gatineau emergency room a significant increase in personnel in a context of a labour shortage.
While the Gatineau ER will be fully re-opened, the emergency room in St-André-Avellin will only be open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Friday, with plans to increase its operating hours as quickly as possible.
