LISTEN: Councillor Catherine McKenney ‘not surprised’ to learn of Ottawa Police cooperation with Freedom Convoy

By CityNews Ottawa

“It defies any clear understanding,” McKenney told CityNews' The Rob Snow Show on Wednesday, April 4. “Definitely a reason why we need answers on how this occurred.

The Somerset Ward councillor, who says they will be running for mayor in this year's election, was reacting to recent news reports that found communications between Ottawa Police and convoy organizers that appear to show a level of cooperation in the days leading up to the start of the three-week occupation of Ottawa.

'When I and residents and others were calling for them to be removed, they were actually there with permission,” McKenney said.

The councillor also commented on local issues that are impacted by the 2022 federal budget, which will be tabled this week, saying that a shift in thinking on how upper levels of government fund housing and transit services in municipalities is need post-pandemic.
