Local business leader running as candidate in College ward

By CityNews Ottawa

Business leader Patrick McGarry is running in the October 24 municipal election as a candidate in College ward.

“This is a wonderful and perfectly timed opportunity for me to expand my service to the community,” McGarry said in a news release.

McGarry is an owner and the chief operating officer of Hulse, Playfair and McGarry Funeral and Cremation Services, a local business that has served the Ottawa region since 1925. He has held senior roles on boards within his  industry and with many local community organizations, including the Kiwanis Club of Ottawa, the Council on Aging, Kind Canada and 100 Men Who Care Ottawa.

McGarry was recognized by the Ottawa Business Journal as a Forty Under 40 Recipient and recently obtained his executive MBA from the University of Ottawa.

Through volunteering, community outreach and strong local business leadership, McGarry has always worked towards making his community better and is committed to working hard for the College ward.

“I am running because I care about the residents of College ward and the future of the city of Ottawa,” he said.

McGarry told The Sam Laprade Show on Wednesday, July 13 that being a city councillor involves a lot of the skills from his current line of work.

“One of the things I did was a lot of research on was what was the role of a councillor,” he said. “As I was going through those items, I was saying to myself, well I do that all the time, I do this all the time, this is what I am comfortable with.”

McGarry will be speaking with residents to learn more about their issues and priorities. His full campaign platform will be released in the coming weeks.
