A Belleville man has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with a fatal crash in Napanee last week.

On March 6, police officers tried to stop a man for speeding on County Road 2 when his SUV collided with a second vehicle.

An 88-year-old woman in the second vehicle was killed.

Andrew Slapkauskas, 43, has also been charged with attempted murder, flight from police causing death and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

Police say he'll remain in custody until his bail hearing.

The Special Investigations Unit is investigating the action of two police officers, while three other officers are witnesses to the case.
