A hospital in Ottawa's east end is restricting visitor access in care units as COVID-19 cases are on the rise in the capital.

Starting Wednesday, Sept. 29, at the Montfort Hospital, patient visits will be limited to family caregivers in the care units.

"This is a safety measure for our patients and employees as we see a rise in COVID-19 cases in our community," hospital officials said in a statement to CityNews Ottawa. "Today’s change does not impact our previous guidance on accompanying a patient at the emergency, the family birthing centre or to a medical appointment."

Only one family caregiver can be present at the bedside, and up to two family caregivers can help a patient. One person can be with a patient in the emergency room, or two people in the case of a newborn or a child.
