Ottawa's police service will conduct a Canada-wide search for its next police chief.
The current police chief, Charles Bordeleau, will retire from the police service on May 4. The Ottawa Police Services Board approved the search at its board meeting, Monday.
The police services board will also conduct a country-wide search for a new director-general, the top civilian position within the force.
Monday's meeting also approved the 2019 Ottawa Police budget — a $306.5 million spending plan, which is $12 million more than the year before and represents an additional $18 on the average residential property tax bill.
The police budget will go to city council for final approval.
