National Arts Centre welcomes 'Dear Evan Hansen'

'Dear Evan Hansen' is a story that all ages can connect with.

As audiences return to see live shows, Broadway Across Canada's latest production of 'Dear Evan Hansen' is one that deals with a topic many have been touched by: mental health.

John Hemphill, a cast member of the show, told The Sam Laprade Show with guest host Derick Fage on Thursday, August 4, that 'Dear Evan Hansen' is about a high school senior dealing with social anxiety who writes a letter that gets into the wrong hands.

"We all deal with mental health. Each one of these characters goes on that journey to find a better place," he said, adding that it's a powerful story for all ages that the audience will want to bring tissues to.

"You're left with this wonderful feeling of hope at the end. That we're all in this together."

Hemphill added that the heartwarming play is accompanied by fantastic pop-forward music that audiences will get stuck in their head.

The National Arts Centre welcomes 'Dear Evan Hansen' from August 9 to 14.
