Nepean retailer worker celebrating $100,000 lottery win, planning to travel when it’s safe

A bit of a late birthday surprise, but Carolyn Thurber certainly isn't scoffing at $100,000 from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG).

The Nepean retail worker matched the last six of seven Encore numbers, in exact order, in the January 8, 2021 Lotto Max draw to claim her prize.

Thurber says she won just five days after her 60th birthday.

“It was very early in the morning when I used the OLG Lottery App to check my tickets. I had my phone on silent and when I saw 'Big Winner,' I had to scan it four more times to believe it!”

Thurber immediately woke her husband to tell him the good news.

“This is quite a blessing,” Thurber says. “It's come at the right time for my family.”

She plans to pay some bills and save her winnings.

“We will put some aside for travel when it's safe.”

The winning ticket was purchased at Shoppers Drug Mart on Robertson Road in Nepean.
