New Civic Campus 'Ottawa's most important healthcare transformation for next 50 years,' says CEO

Cameron Love is thrilled to see the project moving forward after approvals from the City of Ottawa and National Capital Commission.

he Ottawa Hospital is excited as it now gets to focus on the design of its new Civic Campus and seeing it constructed.

Ottawa city council approved the campus' site plan at Wednesday's meeting, a week after the National Capital Commission (NCC) did the same.

"The opportunity this has created for us to be literally a world class centre, that is recognized as one of the top centres in Canada, if not North America -- this centre and this infrastructure puts us on that map," says President and CEO Cameron Love.

Love says there will be additional opportunities for research, increased space in operating rooms, and much more that will be felt on an individual level, such as increased signage, and better amenities for families.

"It is probably the most important healthcare transformation project, for the City of Ottawa, for at least the next 50 years."

An early timeline will see shovels in the ground on the $2.8-billion facility in 2024, with its grand opening slated for 2028.
