UPDATE: No new COVID-19 outbreaks declared in Ottawa, but several indicators show little movement

By Dani-Elle Dubé

Ottawa’s COVID-19 numbers seem to be at a bit of a stand still with some indicators showing little movement, although no new outbreaks are being declared anywhere in the city.

According to Ottawa Public Health’s Saturday report, six new cases have been reported — 12 fewer than Friday — with active cases now at 118, down from yesterday's 137.

This brings Ottawa’s total number of cases to 27,641.

In all, 104 new cases have been reported in Ottawa over the past seven days.

The city is, however, reporting two new deaths. This brings the local death toll to 591.

While no new outbreaks declared in the city, there are still two ongoing outbreaks in healthcare institutions, two in childcare centres and schools and three in the community.

Hospitalizations saw a bit of a budge, with one patient leaving the hospital (now five patients with the virus remain, down from six) and there's only one patient left in the ICU (down from yesterday’s two).

The incidence rate dipped to 9.9 per 100,000.

The positivity rate, too, is frozen at 1.3 per cent.

In all, 869,410 vaccines have been administered in Ottawa — that's 90 per cent of the city's inventory.

The Ontario government has the Eastern Ontario Health Unit removing six cases from its overall tally, a switch from yesterday’s one newly reported case.

The Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit recorded two new cases, up from yesterday’s zero.

And Renfrew County and District Health Unit has no new cases to report.

Across the province, there are 346 new cases of the virus and 13 deaths.

This brings the province’s case total to 543,917, and death toll to 9,114.

And in the last 24 hours, 503 cases have resolved.

There are two more people in the ICU, bringing the current total to 273.

However, there are 19 fewer patients with the virus on a ventilator, bringing the current total to 183.

The province reports completing 25,626 COVID-19 tests. Of the tests performed, 1.1 per cent were positive.

– A previous version of this story said there were 18 new cases. The information has since been updated with the latest information.
